Margrethe-Skolen offers a two-year further vocational design education, divided into four semesters. The education is SU legitimate.

Margrethe-Skolen’s force is its creative approach to the design education. The school’s positive, dynamic and creative atmosphere inciting the students to develop personality, originality and individuality. A development through basic, factual and artificial study brings the student in a position after graduation to be able to perform design tasks for the industry, brands or own production.

In the lesson plan, the students is challenged to go beyond their own borders, creating new forms of material processing and color combinations. The goal is to achieve innovative combinations and new interpretations of existing ones.

By the graduation in 2010, Camilla Lagerbon was one among many who showed an impressive presentation. Here Camilla tells a little about her inspiration:

My main inspiration comes from a photo series called “Spooky little girl like you” by the Swedish photographer Denise Grünstein. The series is a reflection of how society still has difficulty accepting that it is different. An unbalanced world who would rather be equal.

The collection is also inspired by the figure of the Italian comedy mask “Commedia dell’arte” from the 1500′s. The piece has a mixed expression of classic circus shapes and colors and a darker character traits. This is typical of the temporal arts, who wore an expression of depression and hope.

As an additional visual reference to the 1500′s, I used the old keys with their shapes and function that reminds me about that times craftsmanship and technology. My craftsmanship has been the starting point deconstruction of classic tailor-jackets and shirts.

A modern form of tailoring with lots of layer upon layer, where funny proportions helps create my modern style. Classical textile design with self-irony and humor.

Margrethe-Skolen arranges a study tour to Paris in the first year of the course to give the students insight into the Mecca of culture and fashion. The school intends, by visiting the textile fair Premier Vision, to facilitate a deeper understanding of how a collection is formed in the professional milieu. There will also be admission to the Couture Salon of one of the known fashion houses of Haute Couture, the great textile sales and the ingenious accessory shops, current exhibitions, galleries, trendy fashion boutiques, markets etc.

Our guide has much experience in Parisien life and curiosities, as she herself has lived there for a number of years and worked as a chief designer in the big fashion houses. She has great insight, knowledge and understanding of the structure and operation of a fashion house and is closely acquainted with the production process of Prêt à Porter and Haute Couture. The excursion to Paris aims to give the student experiences, inspiration and insight, which will be exploited on our return to Copenhagen in a project on fashion, trends, concept and collection.
The first-year students showed their yearproject with a cultural/ethnic theme while the second-year students showed their exam with self-chosen theme for the attendees, who both were family, friends and people from the industry.
