Two Years

Margrethe-Skolen’s two year education is divided into four terms. The education is SU justified

1st term: Basic training in all disciplines, research, concept, croquis, drawing and illustration, materials, form, tailoring, draping, sewing, as well as experimentation, styling, society and culture.

2nd term: The history of fashion, ethnic projects, experimental projects, tailoring, computer design using Illustrator, leather, portfolio and an exam project. It is expected that the students work constructively and creatively, focusing on both experimental and academic aspects.

3rd term: Branding and commercial production, computer design using Photoshop, presentation technique (communication and instruction), a sports project, advanced tailoring and sewing techniques, galla, creative projects and draping.

4th term: Development of concepts, leather and fur and the student’s graduation collection.

Teaching focuses on more process-oriented projects. Professional assignments are given, so that the students establish contact with and insight in chosen companies. Similarly, emphasis is put on creative tasks, which are to be dealt with experimentally using various silhouettes, shapes and materials.

Students on their third term have by this time learnt the methods and techniques which give them the freedom to develop both process and product. At this point, the students also have an opportunity to apply for work-experience of a longer or shorter duration. Throughout the entire period of tuition, individual projects will be evaluated, both orally and in writing, by Margrethe-Skolen’s staff.

2nd Term Examproject is focused on The History of Fashion or Ethnic Identity.

The project consists of five completed and coordinated creations inspired by a historical epoch or a chosen ethnografi together with their researchbooks and portfolios. 2. semester exam collection will be exhibited alongside the fourth semester’s graduation show during Copenhagen Fashion Week.

4th Term Final Exam - Students are given free choice of theme.

The exam project consists of a collection of five completed creations which reflect our own time and environment whilst revealing the designer’s sensitivity to coming trends, together with their researchbook and portfolio. External censors with much experience within the world of fashion are chosen to judge the collections, largely upon the creative aspect but also upon the designer’s degree of daring in breaking norms and rendering the creative expression in the form of a fashion production.

The 2nd year concludes with an impressive show, where professional models are styled by the students, with hair and make-up arranged by beauty-experts. Invited guests range from business people and journalists to interested parties who believe that fashion is an essential facet of life which is both worthy of participation and exciting to explore.
The graduation show is placed during Copenhagen Fashion Week, side by side with the leading Danish designers, and thereby the students can give their opinions on the upcoming fashion, in terms of creativity and craftsmanship.

The trainee period is not a part of the education, but Margrethe-Skolen can contribute to the arrangement for the students, so that he/she can expand their network and contacts with the enterprises and improve their opportunities for employment in the industry.
